Selena

She was a singer, performer and designer and broke barriers in the music industry. Her role as an Mexican American performer was traditional and contemporary. She introduced Tejano to the mainstream in an innovative way. Her name was rising who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. And as is common when a brilliant, genial young performer is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she could not yet attain. Fans have worked harder through the years to keep her legacy alive. Selena's tragic murder by a shooter triggered emotions in Latino communities that is comparable to those who reacted to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. An enormously popular singer within Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact people young and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by certain people as the Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness efforts provide a great example.
